THE "LOW ROUTE" ON GARIN

Leave your car on the main square in Bobbio, cross the bridge over the Pellice river, take the first right turn for the Absess hamlet and follow the forestry trail which climbs into the woods from here. The path goes through deciduous woodlands and chestnut groves. Looking down from the path you can see the hamlets of Laus and Paiant, further in you can cross the "Napoleonic Bridge" into Malpertus.

Autumn and Spring are the best times for this walk.

THE "BIAVA" PATH

Take the main road from Bobbio to Villanova. After about 5kms turn left across a bridge and follow the forestry trail through beech and larch woods which arrives at 'La Biava', a disused barracks which has recently been rebuilt. One of the three most important white fir woods remaining in Val Pellice surrounds this area.

Best visited between May and October.

VILLANOVA (1223m asl), PRA' AND PARTIA D'AMUNT (1750m asl).

The asphalt road from Bobbio finishes at Villanova. An ancient mule track passes amongst the houses and climbs upwards between small meadows and hayfields, and continues, further up, along an unpaved road, between larch trees and alpine streams where it is fairly easy to see the local alpine fauna. On reaching the beautiful alpine valley 'Conca del Pra' you can keep walking through alpine pastures and larch woods to Partia D'Amunt where local farmers bring their herds to graze during the summer months.

May to October is the best season for this walk.

THE "BARBARA" MOUNTAIN HUT (1753m asl), COLLE BARANT (2373m asl) AND THE BOTANIC GARDEN (2290m asl)

Having parked your car in the area outside the mountain hut, you follow and old military road which passes through typical mountain scenery and leads to Colle Barant. On a clear day you can admire the whole chain of mountains which frames the Val Pellice from here, and see a wide expanse of the Piedmontese plain, too. Just below the Colle, on the far side, you can visit the 'Bruno Peyronel' Botanic Garden, which contains many different alpine niches.

Best visited in July and September.

5.

PARTIA D'AMUNT (1750m asl)AND THE GRANERO MAUNTAIN HUT (2377m asl)

It is easy to reach the Granero Mountain hut from Partia D'Amunt following an easy mule track. There are several lakes of glacial origin near the refuge, surrounded by high alpine ecosystems and peaks above 3000m asl populated by ilex, grouse and ermellines.

This area is at its best between July and September.
